There is one STABLE version of mpiBLAST available:mpiBLAST-1.5.0-PIO. This version uses parallel I/O techniques to greatly improve the performance of collection and output of results. You do not need a parallel file-system to run mpiBLAST (i.e., this version will also run on NFS). However, mpiBLAST can make use of one if available resulting in a significant increase in performance.

Short list of features:

• Uses serial I/O (e.g. NFS) or parallel I/O (e.g. PVFS) with runtime option
• Able to efficiently and in parallel generate exact e-value scores for large queries
• Scalable database pre-distribution saves time sending fragments to workers
• Efficient caching of database fragments in memory
• Already patched NCBI toolbox eliminates need to download and install separately
